Main Requirements

Membership Fees

Membership fees are the primary source of financial support for ECLAM. You will be invoiced annually and may pay by credit/debit card or direct transfer. Fees are due in 30 days. Penalties will be applied if your payments are late.

Certified Diplomates pay the highest fees. Non-certified members pay reduced fees, and may revert to Certified status by meeting requirements set by the Council. Retired members pay no fees.

To see the current fees, see the Fees page.

Annual General Meeting (AGM)

The AGM is held annually in January, usually on the last Thursday of the month. All AGMs are online events. You must register in advance in order for your attendance to be verified.

All Certified Diplomates must attend at least 3 AGMS in 5 years in order to meet recertification requirements.

If you are not able to attend, you must inform the Secretariat in advance with the reason you cannot attend. If you do not submit this request, you will be marked as ‘Did not attend’.

Recertification

All Certified Diplomates must re-certify every 5 years. There is an additional fee for the process.

The application is a record of the previous 5 years of activity, in categories including continuing education, teaching or presentations, publications, and committee or Council service. A point system, approved by EBVS, is used to ensure that Diplomates remain active in at least three of these four areas.

Additional Activities

Supervise Residents

All residents must be supervised by an ECLAM Diplomate for a period of 3 to 6 years. Residency programmes follow the same rules whether they are standard programmes (delivering approved content to all enrolled residents) or alternate-route programmes (tailored to the specific needs of the individual resident).

Responsibility begins with assisting the resident in planning their training and submitting required documents and forms to the Education Committee for review and approval.  The residency period cannot begin until the completed application is received and acknowledged by the Education Committee. No prior training is accepted for credit towards the Diploma.

The Diplomate must mentor the resident by meeting together often enough to assess progress and recommending courses or other training opportunities. The resident submits an annual report/update to ECLAM which must be approved by the Diplomate. At the completion of the residency the supervising Diplomate writes a letter of support indicating the readiness of the resident for becoming a Diplomate.

Serve on Council and Committees

ECLAM is led by an elected Council. ‘Ordinary Members’ serve 2-year terms and may be re-elected. The President-elect is chosen by the entire Council and serves for 2 years, after which they become the President for 2 years, followed by 2 year as Immediate Past-President.

There are three standing committees: Examination, Education, and Mock Examination. All Diplomates regardless of their designation are encouraged to join committees and participate in the mission of ECLAM. Committees are led by a Chair and Deputy Chair.  All members serve 3-year terms and can be re-appointed.

The time commitment for these areas of service varies, generally consisting of monthly meetings held via online conferencing. Members collaborate using Google Drive and online examination software.
