The Experimental Animal Center (EAC) is the structural unit of the University of Bern carrying the responsibility for in-vivo research. In its multispecies, decentralized animal facilities, the EAC aims at providing state of the art use and care of the animal programs. The 3Rs (Reduce, Refine, Replace), the “culture of care” and compliance to guidelines and regulations are cornerstones of the EAC strategy.

We are seeking by June 1st or by appointment, an outstanding, robust and very motivated Laboratory Animal Veterinarian / GMO Manager.

Requirements:

  • ECLAM or ACLAM Diploma is desired
  • Eligible to work in Switzerland
  • At least 3 years of working experience in laboratory animal medicine
  • Robust knowledge of genetic modifications and breeding in experimental rodents
  • Experience in carrying out distress monitoring is an advantage
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with animal management programs (e.g. Pyrat, e-rats). Proficient with Word and Excel office applications.
  • You are a reliable, flexible, team player, well organized and service-oriented person with quick comprehension and independent, very careful, diligent way of working.
  • Fluent in English and/or German, other languages are a plus

ECLAM Residency position

The EAC is building upon excellence in its animal care program to achieve the best quality of research. The 3Rs, the culture of care and compliance to regulations are cornerstones of the EAC strategy.

This is an interesting career opportunity to become a European Specialist in Laboratory Animal Medicine (Dipl. ECLAM) that provides three years of supervised training and experience on Laboratory Animal Medicine and Science within the Swiss and Southern Germany Residency Program in Laboratory Animal Medicine.

The post holder performs his/her duty under the direct supervision of the clinical veterinarians, the Head of EAC, who is a Dipl. ECLAM and other EBVS specialists (ECVAA, ECPV). This position will report to the Head of EAC.
